?stanbul Menkul K?ymetler Borsas? (?MKB) former Chairman & CEO Hüseyin ERKAN has been appointed as Secretary General of the World Federation of Exchanges (WFE). WFE is the global trade association of publicly regulated exchanges, and ?MKB has been a member of WFE since 1992.
Mr. ERKAN said, “I am honored that the WFE Board of Directors has appointed me to the position of Secretary General, recognizing my commitment to the principles put forward by the Federation. My goal is to expand and enhance WFE’s service and advocacy for well-regulated exchanges, particularly during this period of rapid global economic transformation”.
Mr. ERKAN has approximately 23 years of experience in the financial sector. He worked for ?MKB during 1994-2006, when he established the International Relations and Research Departments, and took part in the establishment of the Federation of Euro-Asian Stock Exchanges in 1995. He was promoted as Executive Vice Chairman in 1995. He served as general manager of a brokerage house following his departure from ?MKB in 2006. Mr. ERKAN was appointed as ?MKB Chairman&CEO in 2007, in which role he was also the President of FEAS, Chairman of ?MKB Settlement and Custody Bank Inc. (Takasbank), Chairman of WFE Working Committee, and Board Member of WFE. Mr. ERKAN’s tenure ended at end-2011.
Mr. ERKAN graduated from New York University Stern Business School with a B.S degree in Economics (1981) and an MBA in the fields of International Business and Finance (1984) with a thesis project on currency risk management at the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
